MUSIC VIDEO ANALYSIS

(There she goes) https://youtu.be/Ht0GxBFUvNo . Lyrics -http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/sixpencenonethericher/thereshegoes.html
-       Racing through my brain
-       Pulsing through my veins
When first watching this music video the audience is given an impression of ‘low lives’ those who are hard done by or struggling in life. Drugs can generally have this effect on the life of some people. Eventually getting addicted to it. Through out the video you see that they have not thought about the videography (angles, clothing, tints, and centre of attention. We would generally think that this music video is to do with a ‘love’ song about a girl, but through their clothing and camera angles you can tell it isn’t. It’s actually talking about the use of heroin we can also learn this through the lyrics that are portrayed, “racing through my brain”, giving us a sense of a ‘high’. By getting to understand this you eventually gain another perspective and widen our point of view on those who are generally strolling from drug addiction

-       Oh, ye of so little faith
-       Don't doubt it, don't doubt it
-       Victory is in my veins
“Confidence booster.” This video is aimed towards a younger audience, such as young girl around the ages of 8 to 16. But it is also aimed at older boys too. Thought is a key objective in the music video, as well as the lyrics. All angles of the video are eye catching. Such as pan shots and zooming.
The video is mad to be very controversial as she has been in some kind of accident, as we can see she is grounded, scarred and scratched. Having all these issues she is still modelled as a very pretty woman. Once again making it very controversial. It is too a confident booster as it is shown that she doesn’t give up the moment things get hard, she keep persevering. Eg:

The La's are a more music based band portraying an image vividly, where as Katy Perry is a more commercial figure who does quit a lot of this for publicity. She was recently used as propaganda by Hillary Clinton. This both benefits her and Hillary, although she lost the election. Katy Perry was able to gain more of an audience from Clinton supporters.

The La's have not been seen doing such publicity stunts compared to modern day actors and singers. They mostly stick to themselves, and have a deep story to tell in the video I analysed. But in These two videos they are fairly similar as they are both portraying a message, to their audience.

Comments

  1. I think on both of these you can look to compare and contrast more. The La's are obviously more music centred than image conscious. With Katy Perry this is different. I think you could explain more that artists like Katy Perry become the brand and therefore are the focus of the video. Look back through your handouts at some of the material on music video and the link either between lyrics and / or the way that the video makes a different interpretation of the song. Narrative / symbolic codes are something that need analyzing here.

This may be because of the way the set is arranged, from the lighting to props. The fast pace of the video shows the happiness flowing through their veins. The umbrellas convey romance, portraying the true bond they all share.

Studying Zack King

As I am going to be editing the opening scene for our project, I decided to study up Zack King, in order to grasp a better understanding of editing. This was because I found his editing to be a very soft, and not at all abrupt. the way he clicks his fingers and 'teleport's' to another place is quite fascinating, because it all done within a split second. This mad me wonder how he did it and so I learnt that he edits frame by frame, so that the change is smooth yet quick. So I went away and decided to edit around 15 seconds of a music video, frame by frame. This took quite a while as editing frame by frame is very tedious, and time consuming, but as I got the hang of it, I began to edit much faster and efficiently. Editing the way I did, I was able to achieve a glow around the singer making his stand out more and, quite a lot of the glow was made to fit the music and the dance moves. So as he swings his arm to the right of the screen, I add blue lines ejecting from h...

Dead Man's Shoe Scene Analysis

In lesson, we watched a 3-minute clip of dead man’s shoe, and straight away we see a lot of confrontation. We learn that there is something about to arise from what took place in what looks briefly looked like a mental hospital though it could also be a wreck centre as there was a Snooker table. As it starts off, it seems very grey and bright at the same time. During the time in this hall a man in a green jacket is seen staring at a dodgy male in a beanie. It seems that they must have been either betting or dealing, as we see an exchange of money take place between two men. As the clip progresses the male in the beanie confront the man in the green jacket in a vulgar manor. We now learn that these men are in fact British, we learn this from their accent. The man in the green jacket replies twice as vulgar, supposedly scaring of the man who confronted him. At 50 seconds, we see the same man in the green jacket standing outside with his friend as we watch on a small car flies ...
