QUESTIONS
1.     The BBC closed its online shop this march and no longer directly sell DVD’s or CD’s. What do they sell instead and what is the rationale behind this decision.
2.     How were films released prior to digital distribution? Explain the advantages of digital distribution.
3.     Find 2 recent films shot using film and two shot digitally. What are the pros and cons of each?
4.     What are the advantages and disadvantages of digital music release?

ANSWERS
1.     Merchandise
a.     They use their most viewed programs such as “Doctor Who”, “Sherlock Holmes ” and so on. Majority of these programs have such a great following, allowing them to sell merchandise to fans creating a higher revenue rather than selling DVD’s and CD’s.
b.     These DVD’s can now be sold by ‘amazon’ and at a lower rate.
2.     Films were originally released in cinemas and certain theatres only but as time went on and technology developed cd and dvds were becoming popular and so then they were started to be released on them as well as tape/film

4.     There are various advantages and disadvantages of digital distribution of music
a.     PROS:
                                               i.     Can be listened to anywhere at anytime.
                                              ii.     Easy to pick what track you want to listen to instead of having to skip through each and every track of the album.
                                            iii.     Can purchase one track from people like iTunes rather than the entire album saving you money.
b.     CONS:
                                               i.     Audio quality can be lowered when digitally downloaded.
                                              ii.     You don’t get to have the novelty of a hard copy of an original song.
                                            iii.     Tracks can easily be deleted with a couple taps on a screen.

Dead Man's Shoe Scene Analysis

In lesson, we watched a 3-minute clip of dead man’s shoe, and straight away we see a lot of confrontation. We learn that there is something about to arise from what took place in what looks briefly looked like a mental hospital though it could also be a wreck centre as there was a Snooker table. As it starts off, it seems very grey and bright at the same time. During the time in this hall a man in a green jacket is seen staring at a dodgy male in a beanie. It seems that they must have been either betting or dealing, as we see an exchange of money take place between two men. As the clip progresses the male in the beanie confront the man in the green jacket in a vulgar manor. We now learn that these men are in fact British, we learn this from their accent. The man in the green jacket replies twice as vulgar, supposedly scaring of the man who confronted him. This may be because of the way the set is arranged, from the lighting to props. The fast pace of the video shows the happiness flowing through their veins. The umbrellas convey romance, portraying the true bond they all share.

FOCUS GROUP SESSIONS

FOCUS GROUP WORK             Working with Nabil We decided to go along the path of action/thriller/horror movies, as we were both very into this type of genre. Our main target audience would be males, due to the fact that majority of males prefer these genres compared to romance movies. We then proceeded to look at examples online, to gather ideas and inspiration to create our own thriller/ action. YouTube- AS A grade movies. Looking around on the Internet we came across various movie openings made by various other students around the world, and grasped a better understanding of what it was that we are meant to do. Analysing the openings we also were able to achieve/brainstorm most of what we plan to do for our own movie.
