Editing

To make the film opening I had to take all the clip Nabil and videoed, and Issa directed.
I stitch them together in 2 different programs.

I went home and used a Desktop Compute to used Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2017 to stitch and cut together the correct scenes and chop away any unwanted scenes and sounds. There were many shots taken for each scene and I had to go through each one and evaluate them, best to worst. This was a long process as they were quite equal. My desktop came in very handy as it was able to handle hardcore processing with ease. Reason behind this was having 16GB of RAM running at 3000Mhz and a GTX 1050Ti to run the images. So it managed to render the entire video in less than 30 seconds, partially because the file was only going to be around a 90 seconds.

Once each of the best scenes were selected and stitched together I went through colour grading them and making them fit the theme. This was so they wouldn’t look to bright. Using custom LUT's to do this made it much easier and the process wasn't too long at all. I then also used the brightness tool on clips that didn't need a LUT. The very first scene was in fact unique as my group decided to make it bright as 'Drew's' thoughts were flooding him and clouding his judgement, thus making it very bright and unique.

Majority of the transitions were just cross dissolve, as it didn’t need to be too fancy.
Then came the second editing software where, Adobe After Effects, which we used to add the names.

then came the odd scene where I added a different transition, as sometimes the cut wasn't so well or the fact that the audio was poor so some had to be clipped by adding a transition. This was so we didn't lose too much footage, and so people don't pay too much attention to it.

A prime example of this would be when 'Drew' is slapping 'Billy' and the scene cuts to another angle. when the cut is made, the audio wasn't recorded too well so we can’t hear anything. So, whilst editing I added a fade out-fade in on the audio and made the video transition very bright so the cut didn't look abrupt.

SOUND:

To open our opening scene, we had a non-diegetic voiceover added into the movie to then transition into AJ’s face of ‘sadness’. I then added in a school bell, this too was a non-diegetic sound later added. This sound was added just when the students were about to get up. I found the moment the student got up frame by frame and added in the sound so the students would get up as the bell would fade out. Coincidently the scene faded out too which was great as it fit perfectly then. Some sound had to be brought up, this was not done in another software, but just by cutting the end of the sound in premiere pro and amplifying them in settings.

This first scene is the most important as AJ is lost in his thoughts and hears the voice of an abusive father circling his mind. This is what is going to cloud his judgement and then the following scene of him being told off by the maths teacher. Nabil had found a noise on YouTube under the name slow-motion sfx. But I felt as though it wasn’t fitting into the movie with all the other noises and how quick it would end. It would’ve just been a waste.Further on into the project Nabil also found another soundtrack names bully theme song and we decided to add that in towards the end of the movie.

Studying Zack King

As I am going to be editing the opening scene for our project, I decided to study up Zack King, in order to grasp a better understanding of editing. This was because I found his editing to be a very soft, and not at all abrupt. the way he clicks his fingers and 'teleport's' to another place is quite fascinating, because it all done within a split second. This mad me wonder how he did it and so I learnt that he edits frame by frame, so that the change is smooth yet quick. So I went away and decided to edit around 15 seconds of a music video, frame by frame. This took quite a while as editing frame by frame is very tedious, and time consuming, but as I got the hang of it, I began to edit much faster and efficiently. Editing the way I did, I was able to achieve a glow around the singer making his stand out more and, quite a lot of the glow was made to fit the music and the dance moves. So as he swings his arm to the right of the screen, I add blue lines ejecting from h...

Dead Man's Shoe Scene Analysis

In lesson, we watched a 3-minute clip of dead man’s shoe, and straight away we see a lot of confrontation. We learn that there is something about to arise from what took place in what looks briefly looked like a mental hospital though it could also be a wreck centre as there was a Snooker table. As it starts off, it seems very grey and bright at the same time. During the time in this hall a man in a green jacket is seen staring at a dodgy male in a beanie. It seems that they must have been either betting or dealing, as we see an exchange of money take place between two men. As the clip progresses the male in the beanie confront the man in the green jacket in a vulgar manor. We now learn that these men are in fact British, we learn this from their accent. The man in the green jacket replies twice as vulgar, supposedly scaring of the man who confronted him. At 50 seconds, we see the same man in the green jacket standing outside with his friend as we watch on a small car flies ...
